It is a good, solid phone, with a large display. Configuration is easy using the web interface and changes to the configuration made via the web interface appear quickly without a long reboot. The phone is Power Over Ethernet ready, and does not come with a power supply, although it does have a socket for a 5v power supply.

However, to get full functionality of this phone, such as management of address books, visual voicemail, automatic provisioning, etc, you need to install a special branch of Asterisk (a special branch of the Long Term Support (LTS) version of Asterisk, currently on 1.8) together with the Digium Phone Module for Asterisk (DPMA). Without this, the phone is pretty dumb - you can manually add contacts to the phone one by one, and you can manually configure the phone via the web interface, but that is about it. Visual Voicemail and the full Contacts application come via DPMA.

If you are happy installing and running the special branch of Asterisk (a 10.x -digiumphones branch is promised in the future) then the phone should integrate well. If you just want a phone to work with Asterisk then you might be better with something like a Yealink phone. From looking at the forums, the advanced features of all the Digium Phones (D40, D50, and D70) depend on DPMA, so be warned!
